DeSantis On This Week’s Political Wipe-Out, And What FLORIDA Did To Dodge That Bullet

If we’re comparing this election to a 100 year political ‘earthquake’, maybe ‘rebuilding’ should take notes on building techniques that don’t crumble when the ground starts to shake.

So to speak.

At the Federal level, the House passed all sorts of legislation that was NEVER going to pass through the Senate. It never seems to matter whether Schumer or McConnell/Thune held the gavel, the Democrats had an uncanny ability of pressing their will in Senate, and passing legislation even with a 50-50 senate, while GOP have shown themselves staggeringly incapable of passing even legislation that has broad public support (SAVE act, for instance, or a Bill to protect consumers from data center costs, only to turn around and fear-monger on exactly those costs, with GOP saying barely a peep about Schumer’s role in BLOCKING their protection.)

So what if you don’t have a 60-vote threshold to break a filibuster? What voters remember best is the preemptive surrender again and again on issues that matter. Most of what got done in the last 2 years happened administratively on the Executive side. You couldn’t even be bothered to pass DOGE cuts, or codify Executive Orders that fixed gaping holes in immigration.

Florida, on the other hand, kept the momentum going. The guiding question continued: how can they improve the lives of their citizens? DeSantis had an idea that he could not accomplish as Governor. So he helped put the question to the people. What question?

Should Florida homeowners have their taxes reduced?

Amendment 3 asked Florida voters whether homeowners should pay property taxes on a smaller portion of the value of their primary residence. The goal was to lower property tax bills by allowing homeowners to exempt more of their home’s value from most local property taxes.

Under the proposal, the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes would increase from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and then to $250,000 in 2028. For example, a homeowner with a house assessed at $500,000 could eventually have taxes calculated as if the home were worth $250,000 for those local taxes. — CBS

It passed. With 62%.

When people have confidence that their politicians are actually DOING something, they show up. Isn’t that special?

Here’s the full speech where he covers a variety of topics, including his thoughts on the wipeout.

But Republicans still have two months before the gavel changes hands. In 2018/2019 Schumer used that to maximum advantage by shutting down the government and preventing the passing of the Border Wall bill until Pelosi was sworn in and the late-arriving Paul Ryan budget bill died on the vine.

The GOP still have a chance to press their advantage in the meantime. Will the Senators who actively kept sessions open even while they were away so that Trump was unable to make recess appointments finally get to work in filling judicial vacancies?

Because if you haven’t noticed, activist judges have become a major impediment to Constitutional norms. We’ve got judges in multiple being arrested for helping illegal aliens avoid consequences. We’ve got ridiculous partisanship involving themselves in decisions that SCOTUS has already forbade them from wading into.

DeSantis has a clear idea of what needs to happen in these remaining 7 weeks or so.

🚨 WOW: Ron DeSantis just gave Senate Republicans the only advice that matters before January 3rd.

"I would roll in cots to the U.S. Senate cloak room."

More than 20 of Trump’s judicial nominees are still pending. Four are appeals court picks.

Republicans have confirmed 56 judges since Trump came back. Democrats take the Senate on January 3rd, and Sheldon Whitehouse takes the Judiciary Committee.

After that, a conservative judge does not get confirmed. Not one.

Grassley already scheduled back to back hearings for November 10th to cram them through.

They have eight weeks. Then the door shuts for the rest of the term.

Roll in the cots or hand the courts back to the other side.

Get busy, and show the voters you have (finally) heard them.
