With NATO leaders finished their two-day summit in Turkey, the host country gave each head of state a personalized gift: but Starmer can’t legally bring his home with him.
What’s the problem? Pretty simple, really.
The Turkish president presented each Nato leader with an engraved revolver bearing their name and a box of live ammunition after hosting the alliance’s summit in Ankara.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan also gave each leader a letter waiving Turkey’s export controls on the gun to allow them to take it out of the country. — Telegraph
You see, getting them OUT of the country through customs was not the issue. Starmer got hung up on the last part of the journey: getting them all the way home. Erdogan’s letter won’t help with British customs.
So what happened to it?
It’s kind of embarrassing, really. Especially to anyone who spent the last weekend celebrating the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Sir Keir’s revolver has not been brought back to the UK and remains with British officials in Turkey.
It is expected to be decommissioned before it is returned, meaning it will no longer be capable of firing live ammunition. –BBC
Hard to believe that’s the same country that gave the world the Magna Carta, isn’t it?
Now’s a good time to reflect on the freedom that is the American birthright…
