After Platner proved himself unelectable, he dropped out and the Dem machine picked a replacement. The vetting for this guy sucked just as badly.
Everyone knew the name Graham Platner. For about 5 minutes, he was the left’s rock star. But, a little like the fanfare over Fauci, opinion turned against him once we got to know what kind of a creep he was. When it was clear he couldn’t take down the Republican incumbent, the political fix was in, and all the dirty laundry that was already known about him mysteriously found its way to the press.
Even after the self-described communist had ridden the wave of celebrity political support to secure the party nomination, he was forced to withdraw from the race in shame. And, just like what we saw the Democrat political machine do in 2016, 2020, and 2024, they charged ahead with a decision without ANY regard to the will of the people whose consent of whom they pretend to be the great defenders.
A debate was held between several candidates, which included an immpressively unimpressive dude in a dress whose resume included, practically nothing, really. Some guy named Troy Jackson was picked as the winner. He’s spent decades in the state legislature and is closely aligned to Bernie Sanders. If establishment types were looking for a candidate any more ‘moderate’ than the openly communist Graham Platner, they were surely disappointed.
But the problem with the left’s fringe group of candidates is a little like the problem Trump had in staffing its administration back in 2017, or some of the Brexit candidates had in the UK. The talent pool the fringe can draw zealous and loyal candidates from runs pretty thin. If you vet them too carefully, you might end up with no candidates at all.
Maine’s a pretty small state, true enough.
But is it really such a big ask to run candidates that didn’t have kids with a relative?

Sure, sure. We know all the caveats. There’s nothing technically wrong, in the strict and legal sense, about knocking boots with your second-cousin. (In fact, the UK is currently facing heavy pressure to legalize marriage between actual cousins for … reasons.) But if public opinion was about what was ‘technically legal’, is all that matters, surfacing of the decades-old accusations against Roy Moore would not have nearly seemed so damning as they eventually became.
Sure he’s a Bernie Sanders burn-it-down communist who agrees with all of the narratives about how the system we have needs to be destroyed for the greater good. Of course, they’ll all hide behind the Constitution just so long as it suits them, until they have the political means to rip it down to the studs and replace it with their utopian dreams instead.
But for a party that tried to use ‘weird’ as a way to disqualify JD Vance two years back, while cheering Tim Walz of all people, couldn’t they find a candidate that can at least SEEM normal?
Or was that just too much to ask?
Let’s remember that the next time they dare to call the right ‘deplorable’, ‘irredemable’ or ‘garbage’.
