After watching Jaguar get their teeth kicked in, and major automakers scaling down their electric car plans, you might have assumed Ferrari was glad to have dodged the bullet of joining that bandwagon.
Nope. They decided NOW is the best time to announce their new electric car.
The former Chairman who rescued Ferrari from near-bankruptcy when he took over in 1990 is careful about what he is willing to say about the new release, mostly because he is concerned about the harm that might befall the brand.
🚨 | Luca Cordero di Montezemolo on the new Ferrari Luce:
“If I said what I really think, I’d harm Ferrari. We’re risking the destruction of a myth, I’m very sorry about that. I hope they at least remove the Prancing Horse from that car” pic.twitter.com/CdqD5mGFuN

‘At least the Chinese won’t copy that car’ is devastating enough.
If only the minds behind the new electric model rollout were similarly inclined…
Here is the official YouTube channel unveiling their new model.
On the upside… it has generated a wonderful internet clap-back.
Even the boring tale-of-the-tape takedowns had some meme fun by incorporating the ‘what is that’ WH reporter confused by the gunfire while she was doing her live report.
Everyone is wrong about the new $640,000 Ferrari EV.
It’s not made for a traditional Ferrari buyer!

And along came the memes.
Some mocked the new look:

(There’s a Roomba version out there, too.)
Others made different associations.

Some mocked the impending brand collapse…

A Bud Light callback or two…
It’s all one big collab between Ferrari and Bud Light.

And some where making the obvious jokes about it being the actual antithesis of a muscular supercar status piece.

We gotta admit, there were warning signs if anyone had been watching for them.

But in the end, even the spectacular brand collapse of Jaguar wasn’t enough to make Ferrari rethink this plan.
