Middle schoolers in a just-getting-by neighborhood were looking forward to an end of year trip. When it fell through, one hero cop carried the kids’ hopes on his own shoulders.
You may have seen the viral video about what he did for school kids. It’s a great story, and we’ll share it here. But most people sharing it haven’t a clue what the BIGGER story behind his story looks like.
Sean Reavie is a cop in Phoenix. It would have been easy to hear the news about a middle school’s end of year field trip falling through, shrug his shoulders and say it’s a damn shame. That’s not what he did.
Instead, he saw the disappointment of these young kids as a real problem that needed a real solution. So he solved it in the most American way possible.
He stepped up and solved the problem himself.
Step one was renting an entire 144 seat theatre. This is a big deal, since some of them have never before seen the inside of a theatre. He got them in for a showing of Toy Story 5.
Then he learned about another problem. Not all the kids would be able to afford popcorn and a drink. He covered that, too.
This, and the feel good message he left them with is where the story ENDS for the viral moment. But a little digging shows there’s a LOT more to the story. Here’s the video you may have already seen by now.
🚨#BREAKING: A police officer in Phoenix has rented out an ENTIRE 144-SEAT MOVIE THEATER for over 100 middle schoolers after their end-of-year field trip fell through, so they could see Toy Story 5.
When they got there, he realized many couldn't afford popcorn or drinks…

The feel good message was the way he said they could thank him.
“As you get older in life, help other people. As a payback to me. Would you do that? That’s all I ask of you.”
Anyone who actually watched the clip will notice him referencing his past work in a child crimes unit, where he developed a real heart for hurting kids.
Again, he decided to do something. He stated a charity for kids. ‘Put on the Cape’.
He didn’t tell the government they needed to do something. He didn’t tell his chief that THEY needed to do something.
HE.
Took.
Action.
And taking action has, ironically, given him the ability to ‘put on the cape’ for these kids is a low-income Phoenix school district.
Better still, they see there is still some good in the world. And no matter how much the subversives who want to cut down any love of country might think otherwise…
They have seen first-hand that police can be kind and good.
A tangible lesson like that can leave a lasting impression.
This year is America’s 250th. The founders and framers started public libraries. Fire departments. Adams and Hancock started academies without waiting for public funding. Hamilton kickstarted a project for developing home grown industries, and is responsible for America’s first planned industrial city.
We live in an automated world where we are constantly told that ‘experts’ need to solve problems.
Or that we need the backing of some government NGO.
Put on the Cape is proof that — in America anyway — such thinking isn’t just wrong.
It’s a lie.
America is great because of ordinary people believing they could do impossible things.
And then achieving them.
A cop stepping up to rescue a middle school’s end of year celebrations?
It was made possible by the fact the he had already stepped up and built his charity.
He’s been doing this kind of hero work for a while.
Our Family Advocacy Center (FAC) got a special delivery today from Sean Reavie of @CapePut. The donation included bottled water, backpacks w/ school supplies & teddy bears as well as $3,000 all to be used to further help child victims. #ScottsdalePD #Victimservices #BeMore pic.twitter.com/A3OWp04DbI

What impossible thing is burning in your heart?
Be a mentor?
Start a business?
Invent something?
Create great art or entertainment?
Be the kind word that some forgotten person so desperately needs to hear?
Everyone’s answer is different.
America’s 250th birthday is the perfect time to find yours.
And more than that… take up the baton passed down from generations gone by, and do the little things that make the ordinary people and places in America truly great!
