One guy has been doubling down on his positions, the other is trying to convince us he’s not nearly as radical as he seems.
Say what you will about Michingan’s Dem Senatorial candidate, at least he’s been open about what his positions are. He doesn’t just SUPPORT radical surgery on minors, he cites his medical background as reason that his views are more valid than anyone else’s.
Yeah, that logic worked out REALLY well in the pandemic years, didn’t it?
Here’s Abdul El-Sayed trying to set the rest of us straight on the question of irreversibly surgically sterilizing children as a response to gender dysphoria:
The remarks came during El-Sayed’s Friday rally held at Michigan State University, during which the former Detroit Health Department head responded to a student’s question about protecting sex changes. Since launching his campaign, El-Sayed has flaunted that he is a “physician” and, if elected, he would be the first doctor to serve as a Democratic senator in 50 years. However, Fox News Digital previously reported El-Sayed has never held a medical license in Michigan or New York.
“I went to a whole a– medical school, everybody I graduated with also went to whole a– medical school,” El-Sayed said. “And then… they went to whole a– residency. Right? And some of them went to whole a– fellowship. They took whole a– exams to provide whole a– healthcare.”
“They are the experts that a patient wants to see when they seek care,” El-Sayed continued. “And the decision about what healthcare is necessary ought to be held between a patient — and or their parents if they’re under the age of 18 — and their doctor. That’s it.” — FoxNews
Do we REALLY need to rehash the reasons that an ‘argument from authority’ is one of the best-known logical fallacies? Tony Fauci was a doctor who made broad pronouncements we were all expected to obey because ‘he was the science’. It turns out, he was corrupt and lying. But before he was proven wrong, he did a LOT of harm.
What he’s NOT admitting is that the ‘medical’ opinions on which those recommendations were originally made were a tight group of interconnected activists, that is being SUED by the Florida AG for being an elaborate racketeering scheme, and is being sued by the FTC for making Bogus Safety claims about its procedures.
But sure. He’s a super-amazing doctor who has practiced… where, exactly? Oh that’s right. He’s never actually practiced medicine. And we’re supposed to pretend it’s not even a little bit weird that he equated circumcision — which leaves the function of the organ intact — with the irreversible sterilization of children with unproven radical surgery.
That’s the double-down and aggressively support it guy. But he’s only one end of the spectrum. One expects he’s counting on the support of folks in Michigan who agree with different radical ideas of his, and doesn’t care about doubling down on this issue.
But that’s a state with a history of voting blue. We’ve seen radicals take another approach when they run in purple or red states. It’s the approach we saw taken with Abigail Spanberger… and even Joe Biden: promise the world that you’re just a harmless return-to-normalcy centrist candidate. Then, as soon as you are sworn in, lurch so far to the left it will give the public whiplash.
Talarico is running statewide in Texas. He’s representing the Spanberger approach. The more the public gets to see exactly what this guy really believes, the less they like it. That’s why he’s taken to softening and backpedaling on positions where he was once solidly on the loony left end of the ledger.
His more controversial statements about God and gender come to mind.
“Every sport has to be safe and fair,” Talarico said on Fox News. “As a former public school teacher, I care a lot about our student athletes, I care a lot about our students. And so I will oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it risks safety or fairness.” — TexasTribune
Even that answer is couched in weasel words. That ‘IF’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and leaves him room to argue that safety and fairness are not *actually* at risk, once you really think about it.
It’s like the church he goes to, when he presents himself as a seminarian and therefore an ‘expert’ on what the Bible REALLY says when his own church has a ‘minister’, Babs Miller, who has gone on record saying some things that don’t seem to be particularly Christ-like
“We still have people in this church who wish that the young man had not just nicked his ear, but had been more successful,” Miller said, according to a video obtained by Townhall Media.

Has Talarico REALLY changed his mind, or just his rhetoric?
Paxton has pulled up a quote from 2019 to remind us all JUST how aggressive his support was for children rushing ahead to medical transition:

Do we really believe the guy whose default answer to the open-ended name something he loves question was Trans kids and was willing to strip parents of their children over the sin of being heretical in view of his trans kids doctrines, is suddenly now a ‘moderate’ on the question of how to navigate this issue?
